Women of Life Merea Mentoring

What is Merea?
“But as for you (Titus), teach what accords with sound doctrine… Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.”   Titus 2:1, 3-5
The heart of Merea is to see the women of Christ Community Church be firmly rooted in Jesus and the living Word of God.  We believe a mentoring relationship between an older and younger woman can be rich soil for such growth. Merea is a covenant community where older women connect with younger women in a curriculum based mentoring relationship to encourage and challenge one another in their walk with Jesus.

Merea is a one-year commitment (January – December) of monthly one-on-one and group connections for the women of Christ Community Church. A minimum of two meetings a month is required.

The purpose of Merea is for spiritually mature women to share the gospel and their lives with younger women in order to equip them to glorify God as they learn to think biblically and live covenantally through an understanding of biblical principles of womanhood.
  • Learn to think biblically about all of life, including sexuality
  • Seek to bring their lives under the authority of God’s Word
  • Apply biblical principles to relationships and circumstances
  • Establish covenant relationships with other women
  • Become equipped to spiritually mother other women and girls
  • Grow in their love for and service to the church
  • Cultivate a life-giving culture in the church where women share the gospel and their lives with one another
(Building a Titus 2 Ministry, Susan Hunt)

What is a Mentee?
A mentee is a woman who welcomes the insight and knowledge of a more mature woman and desires to fall under an older woman in the disciplines of biblical womanhood. She has a desire to know God more intimately, to serve in her family, church, community and beyond.

Getting Started:

  • A mentee does not have to be a member of CCC, but due to limited space, priority will be given to members. There must, however, be evidence of faithful attendance.
  • A mentee must be 25 years or older.
  • The prospective mentee must fill out an application and submit it by the deadline. Late applications will not be accepted for the current year. They may be deferred to the following year.
  • The Merea leadership team will pray over applications and assign each mentee to the mentor best suited for her.
  • There is a one-year commitment with the option of continuing for an additional two years.
  • The mentee will participate in a group of 2-4 women.
  • The mentee is responsible for the cost of her book.
  • The mentee will be responsible for childcare. In order for all mentees to get the most out of the monthly meetings, no children will be allowed to attend.
  • The mentee will commit to:
    • Spending time in God’s Word daily
    • Completing assigned reading and questions
    • Meeting monthly to discuss the curriculum with the entire group
    • Weekly contact with her mentor and meeting individually at least once a month with her mentor
    • Applications will be available in October of each year. An announcement will be made when they become available.
BOUNDARIES FOR MENTOR/MENTEE RELATIONSHIP
  • Mentors must protect and guard their time with their families. Each mentor will explain the boundaries with her mentees as it pertains to appropriate times to contact her.
  • Mentors are not babysitters. Their role is to encourage the mentee in her walk as a follower of Christ and in her effort to live out God’s calling on her life.
  • Mentors are not professional counselors; however, they will assist in finding a counselor should it become needed.
  • Mentors are not to replace moms. They are to help the mentee honor her mom.
