Jeremiah 29:7 "Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf; for in its welfare you will have welfare."
As a voter, as a citizen, as a member of society, I can effect change with my vote, but I cannot create policy. My political bias should not effect the manner in which I seek the welfare of the city, state, nation, and world I live in.
3 verses for how to treat and care for immigrants
Isaiah 61:1-2 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn.
Jesus in Luke 4, after being tempted in the wilderness, on the verge of beginning his ministry on earth, goes into the temple, unrolls the scroll and reads these verses from the prophet Isaiah. They, in essence, speak to the backbone of what Jesus’ ministry would focus on.
Leviticus 19:33-34: When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.
*The Bible repeatedly talks about how the law and the protections it provides and it’s requirements are meant for both native born people and for the immigrant. *3 places we see this:

Deuteronomy 24:14: You shall not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns. 2. Exodus 12:49: There shall be one law for the native and for the stranger who sojourns among you. 3. Deuteronomy 10:18: He (God) executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing. *Throughout Scripture, those who are vulnerable and worthy of special care are taken care of under God’s provision.
James 1:27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
The challenge is to go to the places where orphans and widows live and speak hope, truth, and life to them, where they are.
